Master Gardener Volunteer Hours

Master gardeners are expected to commit to volunteering a minimum of 40 hours per year to maintain their status as Master Gardeners. There are many ways to accomplish this and we are very flexible in accommodating your needs. Please remember that 40 hours is the minimum, however, please continue to report all hours including hours that exceed the 40 hour minimum. Click below to download either a PDF or Word version of the Volunteer Hours Reporting Form that you can copy or save.  Pleases submit this form to Tony Melton and copy Linda Belcher as directed on the form.

Here are some typical ways of accumulating your hours:

Travel time to meetings, project sites, helping clients and conducting Association business.

Volunteer hours at the Extension office answering phones, helping people, researching on the Clemson.edu and other websites or in the many reference books in the office. Immediate answers are not required! This is a great learning experience.

Time spent preparing and giving presentations to the MG group or organizations. This is another excellent learning tool.

Time spent working on community projects like Habitat for Humanity, Our Spring Workshop, Gardens at the PD REC, city beautification projects, Yard of the Month judging and administration. The only limit is you.

Time spent on committee meetings, including travel.

Time spent on correspondence, reports, newsletters and articles on behalf of the Association.

Finally, any time spent helping out the public, neighbors, friends, relatives with their gardening questions. This includes any physical work you do in these efforts.

There are many more, but if you have any questions regarding a particular activity and whether it counts as volunteer time, just ask the Extension Coordinator (Tony Melton) or one of the Association officers.
