Master Gardener Volunteer Opportunities
PDREC Gardens: The second Tuesday of each month is the time scheduled to work the grounds of the PDREC. We need to keep up with the gardens and it is a great way for everyone to get some volunteer hours. Please bring your tools, gloves and come out and have some fun. With enough volunteers the work is easy and time goes fast. Contact Janet Bugbee jbug77@peoplepc.com with any questions you may have.
Extention Office Helpers: You can work anytime between 8am and 12noon. Office help can be scheduled for any length of time or any day of the week that you can commit to helping Tony in the office. Help is especially needed on Mondays, since Mondays are the busiest time for the receptionist, Tamika. The personnel working in the office do not answer questions about horticulture; they just take messages for Tony. If you can answer a question, that is a big bonus, just let Tony know the question and the answer that you gave. Contact Linda Belcher 665-8347 dbelcher1@sc.rr.com for information about volunteering in the office.
4-H Camp Again this year 4-H will be conducting 4-H camp for area youth in the Pee Dee. Florence County 4-H will greatly appreciate the Master Gardeners help with the camp. Tony will work with the campers, constructing tomato planters. This will be an inside job at the PDREC. The workshop is being held June 18 and the times are 9:30-11:00am, 11:05-12:30, 1:05-2:15 and 2:40-4:10. Any help during the above blocks of time will be appreciated. We need two volunteers per block of time. Please let Gretchen Bauman gretch35@yahoo.com know if there is anyone interested or if you will be helping
Committees: Please contact any of the Officers to sign up for a committee
Newsletter and Website You will assist our editor/webmaster in finding and/or creating appropriate articles for the newsletter and website. This is a great way to earn Master Gardener hours.
Program Committee Those working on this committee will assist in finding informative speakers/programs for our monthly meetings. You will also be working to plan a couple of informative community events and field trips for the Master Gardeners as a group. This is a fabulous way to keep our monthly meetings fun and educational while you earn Master Gardener hours.
Projects Committee We are involved in several projects throughout the year such as: the Florence County Agricultural Fair, the Spring and Fall Flower Festivals at the Pee Dee Farmers Market, maintaining the gardens at Pee Dee Rec, Master Gardener Cookbook and community projects as they come up. This is a terrific way to earn Master Gardener hours!
Refreshments Committee We enjoy refreshments at our monthly meetings. We need members to share in providing these refreshments. Please sign up if you are willing to help. We usually have a few soft drinks/water, something salty, something sweet, veggies and dip, etc… Homemade or store bought are totally acceptable! Don't forget you'll even get volunteer hours for this.
Spring Workshops We host this fun filled day each March. The public is invited to participate as well for a fee. We have a featured speaker in the morning, provide lunch, then hold break-out sessions with speakers in the afternoon, PDREC gardens are open for touring and a plant sale is on-going for the day. We will need help with publicity, soliciting door prizes, selecting and confirming speakers, site set-up, clean-up and much more! This is a great project with many rewards for all involved, not just volunteer hours!
Telephone List This committee works to form a calling chain to contact those members without access to regular e-mail to notify them of special projects or meeting changes. This is a great way to earn hours!
